Don't want felt? There's always paper. This is a great tutorial, regardless of what you use.
I used circle punches when I made them from paper, and a die in my Sizzix to cut paper, felt and other fabrics.
Two ways to avoid frays and fuzzies if using a fabric that ravels: apply a thin line of a sealant (Dritz Fray Check, Aleene's Stop Fraying, acrylic medium, white glue, etc.) along the edges AFTER cutting the petals; with the wrong sides together, bond (iron-on fusible, glue, etc.) two pieces of fabric together BEFORE cutting the circles.
An air erasable marking pen is found in fabric shops and departments. They're a great notion to have in your stash. Same old rule applies: pretest to ensure the marker will disappear in time.
Have an idea this entry http://paperfriendly.blogspot.com/2007/07/easy-does-it_10.html will give you an idea or two...if you've got a paper edger with the right sized scallop cut, you're ready to go.
