MAKE IT EASY: RECYCLED WOOD BLOCKS AND CLEARSNAP STYLE STONES

Decorating Clearsnap Style Stones is one of my favorite ways to 'fiddle and create.' They present endless possibilities for combinations of ink, embossing powder and/or an embellishment. I usually don't have a project in mind when I start...but it's finished when I like what I see.

When unmounting stamps one day, I realized the blocks would be terrific 'shelf-sitters.' They were thick and sturdy and would stand on one side. Here's a couple with Style Stones.

The blocks can be painted, colored with stamp ink, covered with paper or fabric or left natural. Adhere items to a block with either glue or tape. Goes without saying that Style Stones aren't the only thing that can be displayed on a shelf-sitter. Whatever suits your fancy is fine.

Some Style Stone tips:
A craft ink must be used for the first layer ink if the Stone will be thermal embossed.

To obtain a multi-color effect with embossing powder, melt the first layer, follow immediately with a layer of another color, melt, then pull a toothpick through the melted powders to blend the colors.

If desired, a coat of ink can be added to melted EP after it has cooled. Heat the powder again until it is melted, then blend the ink into the melted powder with a toothpick.

Melted EP can be impressed with an object (i.e., stamp, metal embellishment, etc.) while the EP is still warm.

Use an emery board to either remove or distress ink that has been applied to a Stone.

Hi, the style stones are pretty, but what are they? I have never heard of them until today. Can you tell me what materials you start with, how you make them? Thanks, I get your blog in my inbox and enjoy it.

Hi Bev!

Go to www.clearsnap.com click Extras, click Style Stones, and click Basic Designs to see the rectangles...

Check out all the shapes available, there's a lot to choose from!

Click Impression in Velvet in Labels (on this blog) to see how a Style Stone can be used for that technique. The second picture was done with a Style Stone.

Have fun!

Sara,

Thanks so much! I have more fun playing with Style Stones. You'd never believe how many layers of stuff I've put on some of them.

Also helps that they're drilled...
