I admit to having a 'pre' fetish...gotta pre-test, gotta pre-plan. Can't stand surprises in the middle of a project. Contrary to what many believe, the 'pre' stuff saves all sorts of time.
One handy supply for testing is an index card. I use both 3 x 5 and 4 x 6 cards, preferably white and unlined. Index cards are almost identical to card stock in weight, so what works on an index card also works on card stock. Lots of those 'testors' end up in a project, sometimes as a layer or background, sometimes cut and/or diced. Many end up in my Journal...with how-to (or how-not-to) notes. Handy and inexpensive, especially when an office supply store has them on sale.
So, put index cards on your shopping list and pre-testing on your 'to do' list. Trust me, you'll be glad you did.

Great idea! I also use index cards for samples of my Cuttlebug embossing folders & dies, and my punches.

that is a pretty neat tip, I shall get me some packs of plain index cards, they should be on sale right now at lots of places with schools starting. I find my self wasting lots of cardstock for trying out stuff, and then have to cut it and then do this or that. Just grabbing a pack of index cards seems SO much easier! thanks for the tip!!
This is a great idea! I, too, often use index cards for die cut and punch samples, but never thought of it [DUH] for stamping. I will also start a "How To/Not To" notebook. Thanks, Nancy!! ~ pk
Nancy, I have been using the large sized index cards for years now, for most of my stamping. It takes watercolour beautifully and can then easily be layered onto coloured cardstock. While it does not have the lovely texture of watercolour paper, it is also a lot less bulky and cheaper, too!
