MAKE IT EASY
Sticky + is a lightweight non-woven polyester stabilizer with an low-tack adhesive backing (whew!) from Sulky. It's available in either rolls or packaged cut sheets in fabric and craft stores. You can use this great stuff for all kinds of techniques...here's one.
Although a plain note pad was used for this project, a Sticky Note pad also would work. Measure the length and width of the note pad; cut two pieces of Sticky + that are 1/2" longer and 1/2" wider than the measurements of the note pad. Remove the release paper from the adhesive on the back of the Sticky + and adhere the two pieces of the stabilizer together (adhesive side to adhesive side). Burnish to secure the bond.
Rub a pad of Deep Green Clearsnap ColorBox Fluid Chalk over one side of the Sticky + so that the surface is evenly coated with the ink. Using the side of a pad of Copper Swift Clearsnap ColorBox MetaleXtra, apply small amounts of the ink randomly over the Deep Green. Heat set the inks.
Crease a fold line across the center (from long side to long side) of the Sticky +. Turn over; the uninked side will be up. Rub the Copper Swift pad over the stabilizer until the surface is evenly covered with ink. Heat set the ink. Fold along the creased line and burnish to flatten the fold. Open flat. Apply strips of Scotch Poster Tape along the top and bottom edges of the back of the note pad; remove the release paper from the tape. Center the pad on the back half of the opened cover. A permanent tape can be used on the back of the note pad, but a removable tape will allow you to replace the pad as needed. Either way, burnish to secure the bond and set aside.
Preheat the oven to 275 degrees. Apply embossing ink over a 3" x 4" area of a Scratch Art Shade-Tex Rubbing Plate. Cut a 1 1/2" x 2 1/4" (approximately) piece of Sticky +. Cover the bottom of a cookie sheet (that one that is dedicated to craft use) with cooking parchment paper and place the cut piece of Sticky +, stabilizer side up, on the parchment paper. Cover the exposed side of the stabilizer with a thick layer of copper Liquid Glass from Embossing Powder Candy Store; sprinkle a small amount of Verdigris embossing powder over a couple of areas of the Liquid Glass. Place the cookie sheet in the oven and allow the Liquid Glass to melt (usually five or so minutes). Remove the cookie sheet from the oven and immediately (and I do mean immediately!) push the inked area of the Rubbing Plate into the melted powder. Allow to cool; remove the Rubbing Plate.
Turn the stabilizer over and remove the release paper from the adhesive. Apply the film side of Grafix Heavy Weight Laminating Film to the adhesive on the Sticky+. Cut away excess Laminating Film along the sides of the Sticky +; remove the release paper from the Laminating Film. Position the EP piece on the front of the cover. Open the cover and burnish the area under the impressed piece to secure the bond.
One outstanding advantage offered by a non-woven stabilizer is durability. Kind of nice when that note pad in your purse looks good week after week after week...right?
