MAKE IT EASY: PAPER MACHE BOXES WITH POLYMER CLAY EMBELLISHMENTS

a

Polymer clay medallions decorate the lids of these boxes. The larger medallian was made by pushing conditioned clay into a cookie press after embossing ink had been wiped over the inside of the press. The smaller medallian was made by pushing conditioned into a candy mold after embossing ink had been wiped over the inside of the mold. In both cases, the clay was removed (carefully!) from the mold before it was cured following the manufacturer's directions.

While the clay was curing in the oven, the boxes were painted following the glue/acrylic paint technique described in the More Boxes entry posted on May 15.

When the clay was cool, a light coat of Aleene's Paper Glaze was applied to the front and back of each medallion. When dry, the medallions were painted with acrylic paint. When the paint was dry, a second coat of Paper Glaze was applied to the back of each medallion. When dry, the glaze on the back of a medallion was roughed up slightly with an emery board.

Grafix Double Tack was applied to the back of each medallion; excess Double Tack was trimmed away from the edges of a medallion. After placing a medallion on a lid, pressure was applied to the top of the medallion to secure the bond.

That's the last of the boxes...for the time being. Guess it won't come as a surprise that I love to decorate boxes.
