Paper often needs to be dampened on both sides when pressure embossed with a die cut machine, especially when either a stencil or texture plate is used. Although a fine mister with water often is used to dampened the paper, I prefer a rubber brayer, and I don't use plain water.
Blend five parts water (distilled is recommended) with one part hand sanitizer (cheapo variety from dollar store), and place a small amount of the solution in one side of an opened CD case. Add a few drops of reinker to the solution if tinted paper is desired. Place the paper being embossed on a piece of scrap paper. Use the brayer to apply the solution over one side of the paper; turn the paper over and brayer the solution over the second side of the paper. Text weight paper will be pliable immediately; card stock may take up to 20 seconds. Place the paper in the die cut machine and emboss; dry flat.
Why the hand sanitizer...it makes the paper more pliable .
BTW: You're not seeing double. This post originally was made April 11. I decided to repost it as a Weekly tip. It'll be easier for you to refer to it with that label.

Thanks for the tip. So far my embossing results with my sizzix machine have been less than spectacular. Perhaps this will help.
This is a fascinating tip! Never ever would have thought of this ... as has been true for many of yours over the years. I was unimpressed with Paper Glide (especially after its $5 price tag) and this tip is the kind of thing that is why I playfully call you my "guru." I just caved and ordered the newer embossing goodies and will be playing with this soon. Thanks for posting it. As much as I love GW, I'm glad you have a blog now so such ideas are preserved and searchable! :)
Janet,
Many thanks...I think! Exactly what duties does a guru have? You know I'm not too good when it comes to following rules... Enjoy your new toys.
Nancy, you are just plain old amazing! You really ARE a GW guru-- you have such an astonishing bag of tricks that you share so willingly. As far as I'm concerned, that's the only guru rule!
Thanks for all you do--
Best Wishes,
Mary

Elaine,
Go to the June 23 MAKE IT EASY entry...Pressure Embossing: Paper with stencils. There's the 'sandwich to use when presssure embossing with a Sizzix.
This sandwich produces excellent results, and it doesn't bend the metal stencils. Better all the way around!
Sorry it took me some time to figure out the better way...
Nancy
