MAKE IT EASY! THERMAL IMPRESSION IN VELVET

A Clearsnap, Inc. Style Stone made the impression in navy velvet for this card. To enhance the impression, I inked the stone with Platinum MetaleXtra ink. The yummy paper is from Black Ink, the silver band is Quick Bias (a tape used by quilters) from Clover Needlecraft, Inc., the silver paper is from Grafix, and the beads are some I made from blue Mulberry paper (I wanted 'flat' beads).

Lightly spritz water over the wrong side of the velvet and set aside. Place the Style Stone, design up, on a hard, stable surface . Heat the iron to linen, place the velvet, nap side down, over the Stone, place a Teflon Pressing sheet (find these in the fabric department of a crafts store) over the back of the velvet, and press the iron firmly (no wiggling or waggling) on the Teflon Sheet. Don't be alarmed if you hear a slight sizzling. Lift the iron in about 20 seconds...the imprint of the stone should be visible on the wrong side of the velvet. If it is, you're done. If it's not, replace the iron for another 15 seconds (give or take). Remove the Teflon Sheet, but leave the velvet on the Stone til it's cool. There you go...a perfect impression!

Needless to say, this technique also works with rubber stamps, most clear stamps (check the label to ensure the stamps are suitable for use with heat)and three-dimensional objects that are not affected by heat.
